Organizations currently operating OSCAR 19 can expect a smooth and supported path to transition to CARLOS. Test migrations have already been successful and will be scripted for release in the near future.

A key advantage of the transition to CARLOS is that the unique features and functionality developed for OSCAR 19 have been ported to CARLOS. This means that clinics can retain important OSCAR 19 workflows, capabilities, and functionality while benefiting from the modernized architecture, security improvements, and ongoing development of CARLOS. The goal is to provide continuity for clinicians and staff rather than requiring organizations to abandon the features and workflows they rely on.

The underlying infrastructure required to operate OSCAR 19, including Ubuntu 22.04 or similar platforms, will no longer be supported through regular channels by Canonical as of April 2027.

There are numerous published vulnerabilities affecting dependencies used by OSCAR 19 that have been addressed in CARLOS including new CVEs discovered and published in 2026.

In addition to these published CVEs, OSCAR 19 has specific security vulnerabilities that have been identified but are not being publicly disclosed. The combination of known published vulnerabilities, additional undisclosed vulnerabilities, and the approaching end of regular infrastructure support presents an increasing security risk for organizations continuing to operate OSCAR 19.

Clinics are therefore strongly encouraged to migrate to a secure-by-design EMR, such as CARLOS, or to another actively supported EMR platform.

If migration is not viable, organizations should consult qualified cybersecurity and EMR security experts to assess their environment and implement appropriate measures to mitigate the risks associated with continued operation of OSCAR 19.

This just provides the toolbar for the schedule page

1. Last value (if mapped) for the test is indicated as well as date.  eg the A1C of 7.0 for the example patient above.  A red date would indicate that a repeat may be post due (2015 is post due for a A1C)
2. Decision support side bar that will activate based on listed medications, disease registry and history (exampled patient with CHF, DM and HTN)
3. Autocomplete Copy to Clinician from the Professional Specialist table (OSCAR 19 exclusive but errors gracefully in OSCAR forks to allow manual input).  Here Dr Hutten-Czapski was added as CC
4. Approximate costing of the lab tests being ordered (as from OHIP reimbursement schedule for labs)  In this example $37.  If you hover over the amount you will get the breakdown.
5. Option to set a tickler when you want to close the loop on a high value result.  None in this example

This time saving feature allows you to click one button to insert a
set comment and optionally set a default tickler, allowing you to
action a lab or document in under a second.

For those who don’t have time to youtube, the feature is also lightly
documented here.

Lab Macros are supported by every build of OSCAR 19, however support
for macro for documents, document linked ticklers, macro in preview
(that *really* speeds things up!), and scheduled ticklers with the gui
macro editor interface shown, reflects builds 2540 and later

The code is a feature of OSCAR 19 and I would be happy to help anyone
wishing to add it to their fork

As of November 15th, 2020, the latest version of the Rich Text Letter is 2.0. If you have previously been using the RTL, you need to either replace the code in that eForm with that found in RTL2.0.txt, or you can create a whole new eForm and rename the (RTL2.0.txt) text file to something that ends in .html . You will also need the new editControl2.txt file which needs to be renamed to editControl2.js and saved in the images folder in OSCAR. There is now support for entering page breaks as well.

Version 2.0 is a newer version of the Rich Text Letter than present in your OSCAR, or OSCAR inspired software.

Not all features here will work on versions of OSCAR other than OSCAR19 (i.e. lab grid, specialist search box, template editor etc. will only work in OSCAR19).

To install just install the zip.

Additional files may need to be uploaded depending on your system

OPTIONAL: Stamps.js, edit to list your signing providers and their corresponding signature stamp image, and upload to the images folder to allow for automatic selection of the appropriate signature stamp.

NOTE that for some OSCAR forks (eg JUNO) this zip will not work.  Instead of the zip JUNO you will need to upload a new version of editControl.js to your images and cut and paste the content of the  rtl20_custom_editControl.txt file into the eform editor

If you have never had a Rich Text Letter you may need to upload all the images used for controlling the RTL  individually from images.zip
